Aluna of AlunaGeorge fame hits the right notes with debut dance track “Body Pump”

Aluna Francis, one of half of the well-known British electronic duo AlunaGeorge drops solo debut single ‘Body Pump’. The newly signed artist to a global deal with Los Angeles label Mad Decent (founded by Diplo) will also, see the singer, release an LP due out soon.

"Having enjoyed being the main ingredient to many successful dance records, I started wanting to create the whole dish. In the past when performing on the stages of my white male peers, I always felt like a visitor being one of the few Black women I could see, so it never fully occurred to me to claim dance music as my music, as an artist, even though it was at the heart of my connection to music.” Aluna admits. “Then I looked at the history of dance music and saw how, for example, Chicago House, known as the invention of house music, was pioneered in the Black and Latino LGTBQ+ communities which gave me the inspiration to stake my flag in the ground as a Black woman in dance music by taking control of production and songwriting with my own vibe.”Aluna

‘Body Pump’

Dance and electronic music is a sound that’s the backbone to Aluna as an artist, so when making her foray into solo music it showed. ‘Body Pump’ showcases an artist with a unique comfortability and one that’s ready to make a statement as a woman of color, in a genre that’s white male-dominated. It’s a funky, sexy, and a club-ready groove. That goes full steam ahead while honoring the true essence of what dance music is and where it comes from. A positive and amusing first offering from the artist. ‘Body Pump’ will not only have her long time fans wanting more but any first-time listeners as well.

Body Pump’ is out now on all DSPs. Click here to listen.
