Cuja is an Asian American Electro-Pop artist. Cuja is currently based in Los Angeles and looking to make a name for herself in spite of the fact that she often felt a disconnect growing up as a mixed Asian-American kid. She wants to use her voice and platform as an artist to lift up other minorities and marginalized groups in music. Her passion for music began early when she was in a traveling childhood choir which traveled all over the world. Cuja has also learned to play the guitar, piano, and ukulele.Cuja debut EP, Vol.1 is out today and it's filled with infectious melodies, cheeky lyrics, and perfect dancefloor beats. Many of the songs highly influenced by Retro Pop. The EP opens with the slick and glossy “Maneater”, a track about being labeled a certain way when in reality you know what you want and how to get it. It's the HBIC (look it up!) anthem and quite the fun bop. We segue into “New Friends”, an 80s synth inspired song about the butterflies you get diving into anything new, whether it's love, work or friends. “Don’t Forget About Me” is a mid-tempo glitchy pop number about moving on from a difficult relationship, yet hoping you still haunt your ex. Cuja says the track was written about a friend of hers. The tempo switching on the song adds some texture and versatility. The final track on the EP is “Backseat”, the beat is fun and infectious but juxtaposed against a serious topic of fetishism amongst women in the Asian-American community, gives the song a unique dynamic.
